Questionnaire

Age? 21

Sex? Female

What is your degree subject (both if joint)?
Ba Social Welfare Law & Criminal Justice

Does ‘Being Bad’ relate well to the other modules you are taking?
'Being Bad' doesn't hugely relate to other subjects that i am taking.

If so, how? And if not, why not?
It was an elective module, my other modules do not cover similar topics.

Have you found ‘Being Bad’ too demanding, too easy, or at an appropriate level?
Overall, 'Being Bad' was at an appropriate level although 1 or 2 sessions where too easy.

Do you think the list of topics covered on the module was appropriate?
Yes

Are there any topics not included in the module that you would like to see included?
Cannabis/ drugs or Alcohol would be interesting topics to include.

Do you think that the format for classes has worked well?
The format for classes were okay however the lecture theatre was too big and not very comfortable to hold a two hour lecture in. At times it was difficult hearing the lectures as some lecturers did not use a mic. The handouts where a good idea yet wasted time handing out especially with such a huge lecture group.
What did you think of the module team?

Do you think it would have been better to have had more:
Small group discussions?

* Yes small group discussions would have been better so it would be easier to put views across as too many people had things to say and never got a chance as the group was so large and lecturers never had the time to listen.

Discussion and debate among the class as a whole?

* No, discussions and debates amongst the class as a whole doesn't work that well for me. A few people make a few points and it didn't go very far.
Information and talk from lecturers?

* No, Information from lecturers was useful and sufficient, the talk in some lectures did drag on at times and i didn't find that useful. Perhaps a little more information or discussion on the coursework would have been very helpful to guide us.

The approach taken in the module is interdisciplinary (drawing on perspectives from English Literature, Film Studies, Creative Writing, Philosophy, Religious Studies, Media Studies and Politics): do you think this a useful way of approaching the topics covered in the module?

Do you think that interdisciplinary modules are a good idea?
It is a good idea, linking ideas and knowledge from different subjects and bringing them together.
Do you think you have benefited from the interdisciplinary approach taken in the module?
yes
Would you like to see more modules that cover this kind of subject matter?
It would be good to see more modules that deal with this kind of subject matter for students who are taking modules that relate well with them.

Are you planning to take the follow-up module PH2004 ‘It Shouldn't’t Be Allowed’ at level 2?
I don't know yet, i will still be in Level 1 of my study in Sept, but will consider it for year 2 once i have more information.

Would you recommend ‘Being Bad’ to a friend?
Yes, i would recommend 'being Bad' to a friend, i already have discussed many of the issues with friends!

Do you think that the blogs (web logs) were a good idea?
Yes definitely, weblogs are a good idea. i thoroughly enjoyed them when i had the time to keep them up to date! You get to share thoughts, ideas, views with others and put your point across. You can never be right or wrong!

What did you think of the other assessments (e.g. would it be better to have one longer assessment rather than two shorter ones?)?
Yes one longer assessment would have been better as i found having 2 separate ones with short word count challenging and the words weren't enough.

What have you learned from the module?
From this module I've learnt different views from people and what they think on topics that effect society. I've learnt the history of Social bandits which i didn't know before. I've learnt how to maintain weblogs.

What parts of the module have you found most useful and why?
I found reading and responding to other weblogs useful as you learn so much in that way and in your own time.

What parts do you think were a waste of time and why?
I wouldn't say it was a waste of time.

Are there any other comments you wish to make regarding ‘Being Bad’?
It was fun, shocking sometimes! An eye-opener.

Controversial Artist RIZ MC

RIZ MC, a new face who I'm sure will hit mainstream soon! A London born artist who last year starred in a channel 4 documentary 'ROAD TO GUANTANAMO' alongside a dear friend of mine.
Known not only for his acting skills but his music also, which reflects controversial issues faced by British Muslim especially after 9/11 and 7/7. A fantastic tune of his was played on YOU-TUBE called '9/11 Blues' it was rejected publicity and radio stations refused to play it!
Personal opinion i think that they where too scared as his lyrics would ignite interest and perhaps get a few people into trouble! He MC's some truths behind the bombings and after effects Muslims have faced, too controversial because he lays down the facts.

Here's some lyrics from the track to ignite your interest!

"Shave your beard if your brown and you best salute the crown Or they'll do you like Brazilians and shoot your ass down"

"Were all suspects so literally, be watching your back, I farted and got arrested for a chemical attack"

Check out his video:- Post 9/11 Blues
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AKTsJpfC0IQ

Now his video has had 44,000 plays on MySpace - HMV and iTunes have now agreed to release it. GO RIZ!

He was in Birmingham this Friday to perform @ 'Drop beats not bombs' sharing his talent.
A talented young man who will surely has a lot to offer. His music shows there are more important issues to rap or MC about rather than women, sex, drugs and money.

I wish him all the best.

Good luck Riz ;)

Response to 'porn'

http://beingverybad.blogspot.com/

To begin with i agree with your point that every one doesn't see it as an honest industry, i myself being one! Yes it may be flamboyant and extravagant life style for the porn stars yet lets get real, its all about the money and attention seeking! Porn stars/ page 3 girls what is the truth behind them.

A while ago i saw a t.v show which featured Jodie Marsh and she was loving the attention however she was unhappy and breaking down in tears due to the criticism she received and being called a 'slag' well what else do you expect revealing all and dressing how she does. Would you call that an honest career earning money. Hm mm...i think not.

Going back to the point of money look at the old man who founded the play boy mansion, and all his 'lovely ladies' by his side. That can't be love! 18 year old on his side, it's the money and fame! What else could you see in a wrinkly old fella! eewww!

Another point this blogger made for consideration is: "But what does this say about us as a society, that we can not feel satisfied with just sex from our partner? That we must look for some alternative form of pleasure?"

Well if that is the case it is rather sad, from my opinion porn is for those lonely souls who either don't have a partner or aren't 'getting none' so spend there evening with a film and you know what!

Jokes aside, it is a multi million pounds money making industry, and as long we have men who are emptying their pockets buying porno it will grow and grow!

The article was interesting http://nymag.com/nymetro/news/trends/n_9437/

Liar Liar #2 Parents lie to children

I didn't mention in my previous blog about lying, the obvious lies... parents lying to children!
Yes you also have people lying to their work place 'calling up sick!'
You have people lying to partners (relating back to an element of infidelity) or just simple everyday lies, hiding the truth or as some say 'bending' the truth!

Parents lie to children all the time. If it is to protect the child from something i think it is acceptable, for example single parents or talking about death to a child. They are too young to understand so you can 'lie' to them. Most adults tell the truth when the child is old enough to understand anyway.

To conclude, there are many variations of telling a lie. The small ones you can most probably get away with, then there's the kind where people get carried away, which ends u
p in getting caught!

Parents lie about 'santa' at christmas or some children aren't told that they are adopted... that's a lie isn't it as your not being honest. Its so kids feelings aren't hurt. I don't think it's bad if your trying to protect the child.
